Twice as many advisors use social media for personal reasons compared to those who use these tools in their professional lives. However, those who do use Facebook and Twitter at the office do better.

The Aite Group reports that advisors who use social media on the job often find it easier to prospect for clients. 

As to what kind of messages to pump out to these channels -- and how closely the compliance team should get involved -- Aite personnel say that odds are good you already know what you can and can't say.

It isn't so much the social channel in itself that requires a separate compliance strategy, but the way advisors use these new tools to get their existing messages out there, Aite says.
